Curator's tour

What happens away from the visible surfaces of our everyday lives? In this tour, you explore our current exhibition Subterranean together with co‑curator Sarah Johanna Theurer. The focus lies on the hidden work of adaptation and endurance that keeps our society running. Alongside background information on the presented works and on the exhibition’s concept, Theurer also gives an insight into her practice as a curator. Duration: 30 minutes.

Sarah Johanna Theurer is a curator and writer. Her work centers transdisciplinary collaborations and experimental formats, with a particular focus on time-based art and sound. She is currently Curator of Contemporary Art at Fondation Beyeler, Basel. Previously, she was a curator at Haus der Kunst in Munich, where she developed exhibitions and live programs exploring the histories and futures of liveness, and the ways technologies shape artistic production, perception, and collective experience. She has curated and co-curated exhibitions with artists including Tomás Saraceno, Shu Lea Cheang, Pan Daijing, WangShui, Katalin Ladik, Carsten Nicolai, Jenna Sutela, Fujiko Nakaya, Isabelle Lewis, and initiated Echoes, a serial exhibition dedicated to networked and performative practices. Alongside her curatorial work, Theurer regularly contributes to magazines and has edited several artist monographs.The tour will be conducted in German.
