Annual program 2026: Fragile Fictions
Under this year’s guiding theme Fragile Fictions, Kunstraum Niederoesterreich focuses on the status of the fictional in art and politics: What does it mean to uphold the distinction between fiction and truth in an era of deepfakes, slopaganda, and alternative facts? How do storytelling and political imagination relate to one another? Which (future) narratives are popular at the moment and why? Besides the manipulative and demagogic aspects of fiction, the Kunstraum annual program 2026 will also explore potential emancipatory and collective forms of storytelling.

H13 Prize 2025: Answer me, Pythia von Stina Fors
In her performance Answer me, Pythia, this year’s H13 prize-winner Stina Fors transforms the Kunstraum into a temple of prophecy. From Sat, 22.11., to Sat, 06.12.2025, the choreographer and performance artist will be present in the exhibition space each and every day during the Kunstraum’s opening hours to conjure the "Pythia" (the prophetic high priestess in the ancient Temple of Delphi). The H13 award ceremony will take place on Fri, 21.11.2025, at 7pm. As in previous years, the Kunstraum awards the H13 Prize in cooperation with an international partner institution: this time, the renowned Studio Voltaire in London.
On a tongue’s tip, at a world’s lip
The group exhibition On a tongue’s tip, at a world’s lip explores moments in which communication falters. Together with nine international artistic positions, curators Tjaša Pogačar and Frederike Sperling invite viewers to consider instances of disfluency not as disruptions or failures but as situations that hold potential for different forms of being with and understanding each other. What other words and worlds might reside in the gaps of our communication?
Between the Tremor and a Murmur Lies a Sunset
Waves as musical scores and lullabies for coyotes and foxes: in the group exhibition Between the Tremor and a Murmur Lies a Sunset, the Kunstraum traces the sounds and vibrations of nature. Conceived by guest curator Lorena Moreno Vera, the show explores the potentials of a true dialogue between the human and more-than-human world.
Silent Spills I
Physical trickles and information leaks: in her live exhibition Silent Spills I, choreographer and performer Deva Schubert explores the communicative power of porous bodies. At the center of the show is a sound installation that activates a series of performative settings over the course of the exhibition. Silent Spills is a coproduction by Kunstraum Niederoesterreich and donaufestival.
Annual program 2025: Noisy tongues
Speech is silver, noise is golden? With its annual theme Noisy tongues, Kunstraum Niederoesterreich presents artistic positions that deal with aspects of communication on different levels. Which methods do people use to interact with their environment? What are the prerequisites and limits of successful social communication? The title of the program alludes to two things: alongside the “noisy tongues” that polarize, divide, and pose an existential threat to democracy, it is also about types of “noise” that have the potential to create connections.
And: 20 years Kunstraum Niederoesterreich. This year, the Kunstraum celebrates its 20th anniversary – no better reason to take a look back at the history of this place and refresh the conversation between the past and present.
