H13 LOWER AUSTRIA PRIZE FOR PERFORMANCE
Since 2007, the Kunstraum Niederoesterreich has been awarding the H13 Lower Austria Prize for Performance, the only prize for performance as a medium of visual arts in Austria to date.
The aim of the H13 Prize, which is awarded every autumn, is to highlight the diversity and relevance of contemporary performance art and to make it accessible to a broader public - in Austria and beyond. Furthermore, a reflection on the presentation conditions of performance art in the exhibition context shall be initiated.
The presentation of the awarded performance project will take place as part of the H13 prize award ceremony. In addition, an accompanying exhibition gives the opportunity to delve deeper into the content of the award-winning performance.
The H13 prize is endowed with 5.000 euros. Next to the prize money, 2.000 euros will be provided for the realization of the performance project and exhibition. The submissions should therefore take into account the spatial conditions of the Kunstraum Niederoesterreich.
H13 2023
In its 17th edition, the Kunstraum awards the H13 Lower Austria Prize for Performance for the first time in partnership with an art institution outside of Austria. With the aim to increase the international visibility of the local performance art scene and to make a lasting contribution to its promotion, the H13 Prize will be awarded in partnership with Bergen Kunsthall in Norway this year. In addition to the prize money, the production of the awarded performance project and the accompanying exhibition in Vienna, the winners of the H13 prize have the opportunity to develop their practice further in a 2-week-stay at the Live Studio at Bergen Kunsthall.
Bergen Kunsthall’s Live Studio is a new research and development space dedicated to live arts and hybrid practices within the context of visual arts. The professional technical equipment, the intensive exchange with Nora-Swantje Almes, curator of the live program at Bergen Kunsthall, as well as various networking opportunities on site provide excellent conditions to further develop one’s practice.
The H13 call remains thematically open. The call opens on February 15, 2023. The submission deadline is April 14, 2023. The winners will be announced in mid-May.
The Jury for the year 2023 includes:
- Nora-Swantje Almes (Curator Live Programme, Bergen Kunsthall)
- Tonica Hunter (researcher, curator & cultural producer)
- Amanda Piña (choreographer, dancer and co-founder of nadaproductions)
- Frederike Sperling (Artistic Director, Kunstraum Niederoesterreich)
