THE LENS AS AN EYE ON THE WORLD

Photography as a reflection of reality – and thus the lens as an imitation of the human eye that grants us a view of the world – is the theme of the Ansichtssache exhibition at Kunstraum Niederoesterreich. The show scrutinises the objectivity of photography, with the focus on the aspect of the subjective that can be made visible by shifting standpoints.

Jutta Strohmaier, who has herself always dealt with new possibilities of perception in photography in her works, establishes two key issues in the nine positions presented here: In terms of content the show primarily features landscape pictures and pictures of space, constantly questioning the image as a static product of reality. The second focus is on technical media-related aspects and thus on the question to what extent and in what direction the photography medium can expand.
