Since 2004 Kunst im öffentlichen Raum Niederösterreich and the Festival wellenklaenge Lunz am See invite artists over the summer to Lunz to realize works in public spaces.
Referring to this years theme of "homecoming" of wellenklaenge Lunz am See the artist Georgia Creimer (born in Brazil, lives since 20 years in Vienna) was looking for a place with parallels to Lunz am See and found it in Lençóis in the region of Bahia.
Georgia Creimer:
I have selected a town in Brazil for the project “Lent Landscapes” – a place that can be compared in some aspects to Lunz. It is a small town in Brazil that is located in the mountains and, like Lunz, relates strongly to the natural surroundings, in particular to the water and the mountains. I have photographed this town in Bahia, known as Lençóis, inspired as I was by my recollections of Lunz am See. What I created were pictures of landscapes, houses, public buildings, water, animals, plants, etc ... I also used a dictaphone to tape the stories people told about the place and its history and later added interviews with inhabitants from Lunz.
I have used this material to create the installation in Lunz am See. I selected pictures that I enlarged to a format measuring 70 x 100 cm and mounted them on aluminium boards that I placed like signs at various locations in the town. These places were special in the sence that they made it possible for the situations documented in Lençóis to relate poetically to their surroundings in Lunz.
