The changes in meaning that come about through “translation” are not only evident in the sphere of language, but since the modern age they have also constituted a wide field of discourse in fine art.
The changes in meaning that come about through “translation” are not only evident in the sphere of language, but since the modern age they have also constituted a wide field of discourse in fine art. In their choice of works, Birgit Rinagl and Franz Thalmair (CONT3XT.NET collective), the two curators of the exhibition “Übersetzung ist eine Form. | Translation is a mode.”, have also gone in search of the points of contact and divergence in translations in the field of conceptual art. What is exciting here is the expanding aspect of the location of internationally communicating network art in the exhibition space. Questions are raised of the function of a translation process that is itself very open to interpretation, just as much as questions of change and reinterpretation by the recipients. The boundaries between literature and fine art as branches of the arts are consciously scrutinized and crossed.
In this show, the Kunstraum Niederoesterreich is presenting 13 positions of young artists, who dedicate themselves to a theme that could spark an important discourse, not least in relation to the current migratory movements and the “hard cultural differences” (Stefan Novotny) connected with them.
