Archive: You won't make a (nation)state with us
The exhibition undertakes an artistic approach to the issue by shining a light more closely on the social and political inclusion and exclusion mechanisms.
Migration – a subject with which – if we allow it – we are confronted with daily in the most diverse forms: political, media-wise, personal. The exhibition “You won’t make a (nation) state with us” undertakes an artistic approach to the issue by shining a light more closely on the social and political inclusion and exclusion mechanisms. How do non-EU citizens get by in a historically multiethnic area whose current political situation is repeatedly calling the basic conditions such as residency status and the right to living into question? The participating artists live in Vienna and Lower Austria; some of them themselves come from migrant backgrounds or deal intensively in their works with the situation of immigrants.
“The exhibition shows different artistic positions that start from realistic possibilities of political intervention and documentary elements of immigrant behaviour and experience.” (Ursula Maria Probst and Walter Seidl)
The exhibition catalogue has been produced in cooperation with SOS-Mitmensch and will be part of the September issue of the human rights magazine MO, which among other things is dedicated to the question of voting rights for immigrants.
