THE FUSION AND COMBINATION OF TWO DIFFERENT APPROACHES

– THE SENSUAL AND THE CONCEPTUAL

The term transmediality signifies that media can be viewed as diverse, incomplete, and interwoven. This openness of media implies that a multitude of possibilities can be called upon.

Furthermore, transmediality rejects strict borders between different disciplines in the visual arts while encouraging transdisciplinary approaches – for example, overlaps and tangents with the sciences, technology, or philosophy.

Experimental strategies are therefore central to the artistic practice, which always must be coupled with critical reflection and discourse. Such a way of working conceives processuality and performativity as potential forms of artistic methodology. This approach thrives on the social and political embeddedness of art, revealing the prospect of seeing art as action and communication.

The exhibition of Transmedia Art is organised into two parts. Both are set up as a mix of selected works by students, graduates, and contributions by the current artistic team of the Department of Transmedia Art.

A performance and music/sound programme serve as a transitional link between the two exhibition phases.
