An exhibition space has to endure a lot. There are installations and performances, exhibitions are opened, contacts made, one shows art and shows off. It is an intersection point for success and failure, excitement and boredom, favour and disfavour. The exhibition space cannot withdraw. It is an archive.

Does an exhibition space change along with its permanent exposure to artistic expression? The subject of research is the Kunstraum Niederoesterreich itself, which is almost exemplary for thoughts on the influences that various usages can have on a space: during archaeological excavations in Palais Niederösterreich relicts of a Roman settlement were uncovered.

Can one grasp the history of a space, the many emotions and layers of usage? In order to access these ephemeral and elusive phenomena the curators apply unconventional methods that become part of the artistic discourse: several weeks ago two energetic healers measured the geomantic energy fields at the Kunstraum; the results of this analysis inform the artistic works. Curator and artist Lena Lieselotte Schuster developed a special graphic representation of the historical layers of exhibitions at the Kunstraum.

The outcome of these investigations forms the basis of a performative interaction of the space with all those participating in the exhibition: artists, visitors, historians, energetic healers.

The media artist Barbara Herold presents her soul analysis machine, which she specially designed for the occasion of The Long Night of Museums programme. In a man-machine dialogue visitors are invited to an experimental aura reading. Furthermore, energy field glasses have been imported to provide a visual experience of the aura of an artwork. Visitors to the Kunstraum Niederoesterreich may exclusively test the glasses.
