In 2005 a new art institution with a very unique profile opened its doors in the former canteen of the Lower Austrian Landhaus on Herrengasse 13. Outside of the traditional gallery scene and with its focus on emerging art, in the past ten years the Kunstraum Niederoesterreich has firmly anchored itself as an important venue in Viennese art life.
On Thursday, 3 Sept. 2015 the Kunstraum will celebrate its ten-year jubilee together with the performance by this year’s winner of the H13 Prize for Performance. With specially created performative sculptures by Kulturdrogerie (www.kulturdrogerie.org), sci-fi-electro-pop & disco-metal by Le Toy (letoymusic.wordpress.com), with good-humoured garage rock by Lime Crush (facebook.com/limecrush) – and hopefully with many equally so cheerful guests!

Julia Marx: Wenn es eine andere Möglichkeit gäbe
- Always be afraid of becoming a slave to routine.
- Sidestep when you see this fear is coming true.
- Do something completely new.
- Work against a “signature style”.
- Be fateful.
- Be hard to receive.
- Don’t ogle an own style, a categorisation. Leave that to the art market.
- Don’t function.
The understood self-precarisation inherent in contemporary work as an artist and the imperative of producing in a society in which production is boundless and slowness has just a theoretical wellness value find expression in the desire to drop out.
In the performance “Wenn es eine andere Möglichkeit gäbe” (If there was another possibility) by Julia Marx the performers = technicians = workers, but also the visitors, must seize the space of the drop-outs from the artistic profession. The initial mounted installation can only be experienced by the most punctual visitors as the processes of dismantling and gradual disappearance will then define the evening.
Do we need art? Do we deserve art in the first place?
