In this workshop, cultural practioner Zoryana Pochynayko will sing Ukrainian laments and invite the participants to make intuitive music with everyday objects.
The starting point of the workshop will be the video installation Mouthless Part II (2021) by the Polish-Lithuanian duo Dorota Gawęda and Eglė Kulbokaitė, which is based on a lament and is currently being shown at Kunstraum Niederoesterreich.
After that, Zoryana Pochynayko will perform laments from her country of origine, Ukraine, about loss. After the performers in Mouthless Part II and Zoryana Pochynayko have tuned us in musically, we will gather around a table to make intuitive music together with our voices, spoons, plates and other table “tools”. In the spirit of Dziady, the "Day of the Dead", we will mourn the destruction of the earth and invoke the spirits of the dead to ask for a reconciliatory mood from them at the table. Following the motto: "Oh, make your fingernails into claves, Your spoons into drumsticks!"
Zoryana Pochynayko was born in 1983, lived until recently in Lviv, and currently resides in Vienna. She is the founder and artistic director of Zhivago Theater, and works as a writer, actress, director and singer.
We kindly ask for registration at anmeldung[at]kunstraum.net with the subject line "lament workshop".
The workshop will be held in German.
