Feeling at home in a place – that is a deeply personal as well as complex sensation. In her project Nitakujengea kinyumba na vikuta vya kupitia [A Home for You I Will Create with Exit Pathways – A Gut Feeling] this year’s winner of the H13 Lower Austria Prize for Performance Rehema Chachage traces various aspects of “rooting” oneself, of actively entering into an exchange with the world. The nexus of Chachage’s search for traces is her own matrilineage: from the migration experiences of her female ancestors up to the present day, to contemporary constellations of displacement, seclusion, and escape the artist expresses the phenomenon “home” as a continuous process of repositioning in time and space, which transcends the borders of nations, generations, cultural identities, and epochs.

What that feels like? Join us and see for yourselves on the night of the festive award ceremony on Fri, 01/09/2023 at 7pm. Then, Rehema Chachage will premiere her performance at Kunstraum Niederoesterreich.

We are looking forward to welcoming you!

Like last year, registration for this event is not necessary.

The jury of the H13 prize 2023 was constituted by Nora-Swantje Almes (curator Live Program, Bergen Kunsthall), Tonica Hunter (freelance curator & DJ), Amanda Piña (artist and curator), and Frederike Sperling (artistic director, Kunstraum Niederoesterreich)

For the first time, the H13 Lower Austria Prize for Performance will be awarded in partnership with an institution abroad: Bergen Kunsthall in Norway. More information on this partnership and the prize in general can be found here.
