The world of T(( ))mbs conjured up by the collective OMSK Social Club is permeated by signs and gestures of asemic writing. This very form of writing, which does not convey meaning and information, is currently found on as a large wall drawing in OMSK's current exhibition at Kunstraum Niederoesterreich.
Asemic writing is rooted in abstract calligraphy and has a long tradition in avant-garde literature and art. In the meantime, it has developed into a worldwide literary-artistic movement. Its focus does not lay on the transmission of linguistic information, but on the experimental exploration of the gestural-physical dimension of the writing process and the resulting signs.
Would you like to try out asemic writing yourself and get closer to the world of T(( ))mb? Then this is the workshop for you! Under the guidance of artist Isabella Kohlhuber, we will direct our focus together on this gestural, illegible form of writing this evening.
Isabella Kohlhuber, born 1982, lives and works in Vienna. She studied transmedia art with Brigitte Kowanz at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna and was a lecturer there from 2013 to 2019. Her drawings, collages, sculptures, and media installations revolve around writing and pictorial or auditory language forms. Her works have been exhibited nationally and internationally and were most recently on view at the PAC Festival Marseille (FR), Galleria Doris Ghetta (I) at Vienna Contemporary (AT), and Bluerider Art Gallery Taipei (TWN). Numerous of her installations have been implemented temporarily and permanently in public spaces.
