You will get the chance to be guided by Elisabeth Kihlström & Alexander Martinz, this year's winners of the H13 Lower Austria Prize for Performance, through the accompanying exhibition Metal Heads at Kunstraum Niederoesterreich.
You've probably been wondering for a while what aesthetically connects heavy metal bands of the eighties like Judas Priest and Oskar Schlemmer's "Triadic Ballet" (1922) in Bauhaus style. Not? Now you probably do!
Think of a gender-neutral ballerina laden with geometric shapes as a "metal head," a fan of the musical form visually dominated by black leather and long hair. If you lack imagination in the face of these harsh contrasts, we've got you covered: Elisabeth Kihlström & Alexander Martinz have taken on this visionary exercise. In Metal Heads, they explore how the experimental performance of the historical avant-garde and the pop culture of heavy metal can be interpreted as a genderfluid form language of queerness. During the guided tour at Kunstraum you will get, accompanied with the artists, a deeper insight into their universe.
We look forward to welcoming you at Kunstraum!
Please register at anmeldung@kunstraum.net with the subject "guided tour Metal Heads".
