In the artist talk on September 4, 2021, Sara Lanner and artistic director Katharina Brandl dissect the winning project of the H13 Niederoesterreich Prize for Performance: MINE. The H13 winner will give visitors insights into her mining universe, which has unfolded throughout her research and the development of the performance. From references like Steve McQueen’s “Caribs’ Leap / Western Deep” to the “mining” of cryptocurrencies and terms such as “extractivism”, the artist talk will follow different threads underlying Sara Lanner’s performance and reflect on recent impressions from the performance itself.
MINE explores the ethical implications of global mining processes. The word “mining” is used frequently in everyday language: Data mining means to source information, cryptocurrencies need to be mined, and not least, in our relationship with our organic and anorganic environment, we mine, excavate, or extract resources. But to what extent are these exploitation processes one-way streets, pure extractivism with drastic consequences for our environment? Can mining also take place from body to body, in a mutual exchange?
Due to the measures taken to contain the spread of COVID-19, we continue to ask for registration at anmeldung@kunstraum.net with the subject line "artist talk H13".
