In her performance, Mimesia – How to Wolpertinger a Sphinx (2018), Miriam Coretta Schulte pursues the networks of solidarity and care.

The artist initially began working on Mimesia during a research stay in Cairo and for three months, met with charismatic and admirable women, in order to investigate the question of the roll of mimetic imitation: When do other people impress us so much that we physically imitate and adopt their mode of expression? The initially personal question turns out to be the center of global practices of cohesion. The imitation of others can be understood as a moment of togetherness and as a basic element of solidarity.

The so-called “Wolpertinger,” also called Raurackl in Austria, is a mythical creature who has attributes of many different animals - a Wolpertinger, for example, can be squirrel and hare, or a marten and a cat at the same time.

The performance, which was previously shown at Kaserne Basel, has been adapted for Kunstraum Niederoesterreich.
