Workshop GUERILLA GIRLS: You Witch!
In this workshop we talk about witches, their persecution and perform a protection ritual to create a guardian*.
The word "witch" is widely associated with negative connotations. Their work is usually described as harmful and malicious. The witch – she* is powerful, dangerous and feminine*. However, the fact that this defamation is rooted in a fear of strong women* and a marginalization of "otherness" is too rarely mentioned. In the workshop You Witch! we ask: Does this rejection possibly arise from a crisis of masculinity that precedes it? And is the responsibility for overcoming a masculine crisis once again shifted to women*? Is it a female* task to master this crisis - we say NO! Therefore, in this workshop we perform a witch ritual to create a guardian* in the form of a small wax figure that protects us from the crisis: "Go away evil!"
The workshop was held as part of the exhibition Oh, make your fingernails into spades, Your palms into shovels. The exhibition by the artist duo Dorota Gawęda and Eglė Kulbokaitė deals with Eastern European folklore - agri-cultural references such as hay and rakes meet laments, elegy and melancholy.
Concept and realization of the workshop by art mediator Laura Birschitzky and artist Stefanie Bascha.
If you are interested in a workshop, girls’ clubs and girls' groups are welcome to contact us. Participation is free!

GUERILLA GIRLS. Girls-Workshops in Kunstraum Niederoesterreich
Already in the 1980’s, the artist group Guerilla Girls asked the question "Do women have to be naked to get into the museum?" Named after the feminist pioneers who have been surveying representation in the field of art for thirty years, Kunstraum Niederoesterreich's GUERILLA GIRLS Workshop series provides a selective offer for girls in order to discuss issues such as emancipation and self-determination with young women.
