Workshop GUERILLA GIRLS: Move along! Body extended!

  • Workshop duration: 2,5 hours
  • Due to the COVID-19 protective measures, the number of participants is limited to 10 persons.
  • Please wear comfortable clothing and bring your mobile phone.

Would you like a little more? Always welcome! In this workshop we will take up the entire exhibition space of Kunstraum Niederoesterreich together with the artist Dorothea Zeyringer to lengthen, widen and expand our bodies. We observe how we move with our bodies through the museum space and ask ourselves: How much space do we actually need? Does the human being need? Do I need?

A central topic of the women's movement was and is the use of space. Women still do not move in space as naturally as their male counterparts. But taking up space has to be learned.

For this purpose we build objects that expand our bodies and help us to claim space for ourselves. We explore how our perception of space, posture and movement changes through the self-built body-objects and how we, through the expansions, conquer space with self-confidence. We experiment with movements and objects and together we develop short performances, which we record as video clips. We change perspectives, observe and are observed, in front of and behind the (mobile) camera.

Dorothea Zeyringer works as a performance artist at the interface of visual art, choreography and language. Since 2012 she has been collaborating with the Estonian artist Tiina Sööt. Her performances and video works are based on movement and text material, which they combine to rhythmic structures and which speak about socially relevant and personal issues in a poetic and humorous way. Her works have been shown at brut Wien, Tanzquartier Wien, Sõltumatu Tantsu Lava Tallinn, Sophiensaele Berlin, Kunstraum Niederoesterreich, and National Dance Center Bucharest, among others.

Dorothea Zeyringer graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna in the field of performative arts and studied at the National Dance Center Berlin.

Lena Lieselotte Schuster is an artist and is responsible for art education at Kunstraum Niederoesterreich. She studied new artistic media with Ulrike Rosenbach at the HBKsaar in Saarbrücken and performative art with Carola Dertnig at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. During her studies with Ulrike Rosenbach, performance trainings took place regularly as a basis for artistic processes and performative projects.

If you are interested in a workshop, girls’ clubs and girls' groups, as well as mixed groups are welcome to contact us. Participation is free!

GUERILLA GIRLS. Girls-Workshops in Kunstraum Niederoesterreich

Already in the 1980’s, the artist group Guerilla Girls asked the question "Do women have to be naked to get into the museum?" Named after the feminist pioneers who have been surveying representation in the field of art for thirty years, Kunstraum Niederoesterreich's GUERILLA GIRLS Workshop series provides a selective offer for girls in order to discuss issues such as emancipation and self-determination with young women.
