Performance Current

The programme planning by the Kunstraum Niederoesterreich focuses on methods, themes and practices of the contemporary young performance scene, which concerns itself with current social, political themes such as gender identification, gender politics, identity construction and defining self-determination.

With the series of events, exhibitions and the awarding of the H13 Lower Austria Prize for Performance, the Kunstraum Niederoesterreich is addressing and promoting performance art.

This ephemeral branch of art has acquired great historical importance in Austria through Viennese Actionism and an intensive feminist-queer discussion. Although performance art today is also represented in the art universities and lively international scenes and subcultures are constantly developing further, this potential has been faced with very few premises and limited budgets to do justice to the creative and artistic effort of performances.

H13 Performance Prize

The Kunstraum Niederoesterreich has been awarding the H13 Lower Austria Prize for Performance since 2007. The prize is awarded by a different jury every year, composed of theoreticians, artists and Kunstraum staff.

2015, the winning project is awarded for the first time €4,000 and is performed in the Kunstraum Niederoesterreich. This is currently the only prize in Austria awarded for performance art.
