Sophie Dvořák, born in 1978 in Vienna, studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Art and the Glasgow School of Arts. Since her diploma in 2008 she has lived and worked among other places in Buenos Aires, Enschede, Chengdu and Vienna.
She concerns herself with forms of expression and representation concepts of mass media, different views of events or things, with perspectives and projections. She plays with the knowledge or exactly the lack of knowledge of the observer and so attempts to explore the issue of the gaps between perception and the ability to understand when looking at image media.
Media images such as press photographers, but also the most diverse kinds of representation of information and/or knowledge often serve as the starting point and pool for her drawings and collages.
