Facts and Fictions: Artistic Positions of Young Austrian Artists Today in Dialogue with China
It’s something invented, with or without any reference to reality, it’s a condition that might exist or a way that something could happen, neither false nor true, but potentially possible, it’s an idea that can move into the future, as much as it could describe the past – it’ s fiction.
Kant defines fiction (in his “Critique of Pure Reason“) as “ideas,
that do not relate to any object in any kind of experience. At the same time, they do not indicate merely imaginary or possible objects.”
Twelve young artists from Austria show works that offer a closer look at such fictive or real rooms, spaces and borderlines, as well as just banal facts. They tell stories of everyday life and, equally so, stories of better worlds; inventing dream countries. The quotidian, the accidentally found, the adventurous and the stuff born of loneliness, the whimsical and the perfectly normal are gathered together in highly personal ways and built up into fictive spaces of the artists’ personal imaginations.
