For the occasion of the first anniversary of the Kunstraum Niederösterreich [Lower Austria
Art Space] the Berlin art critic and curator Raimar Stange has been collating a very
compact exhibition on the phenomenon of “language and text” in the visual arts. In the
process, thematic complexes such as “politics” and “theory of signs”, “text and sound”
or “text and architecture” have been juxtaposed, always presenting two positions. The
artists, who all live in Berlin, were quite deliberately chosen to reflect three different
generations.
What characterises all of the artists in the present exhibition is, as it were, a neo-conceptual
approach to their work, with language being inscribed as a significant aesthetical
element, not least for its critical focus on political topics such as the dismantling of the
social welfare state and the aggressive nature of US imperialism – as well as, of course,
the mundane world of everyday Pop.
